Scott Andrew McDonald has been active in the martial arts community since 1984 commencing with a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and experiencing other eastern martial arts.
Wishing for more exposure to edged weapons, and in particular western edged weapons, Scott became involved in re-enactment commencing 1993 in Brisbane, Australia. Scott took this opportunity to mix and combat members from most active re-enactment societies at public fairs, metal weapon conferences and other events. At this same time Scott commenced modern fencing with the Black Knights Fencing Club based in Enoggera, Queensland.
Very soon Scott began to advance through the combatant hierarchy and within three years was appointed Master of Arms. At this time Scott developed an interest in renaissance era weaponry as well as continuing to cultivate his understanding of medieval weapons.
In 1996 Scott moved to Townsville, Queensland where he joined the local re-enactment society. By this stage Scott was coming to the realisation that in order to provide a forum to learn period swordsmanship skills free of living history obligations, a dedicated organisation was needed. With this in mind, Scott founded the ACA in March of 1998.
Since this time the ACA has continued to evolve and now provides a unique opportunity to learn western swordsmanship in an enjoyable, safe yet martial environment. Scott's desire is to continue developing his expertise with western weaponry and promote this martial art to the Australian public.
Scott currently lives in the Brisbane area with his wife Catherine, two children Elayna and William with the normal entourage of family pets.
